GUEST POST: Disney World Florida by Kerry

Disney has taught us so many things from not taking red apples from strangers, to making friends with all animals no matter how big or small and to be very careful when putting your finger near a spindle in a castle, but most of all he taught us to remember that “Laughter is timeless, Imagination has no age and dreams are forever”
Most of us of course associate Disney with many films that have fun loving characters, bright beautiful scenery as well as happy go lucky songs, but for me it was all about the magic.

All the Disney films that I’ve watched have transported me into my own little bubble that of course was filled with lots of “Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust” – Since I can remember I’ve always wanted to have the newest Disney toys and VHS films, but the best part was sharing my magical world with my mum and knowing that most afternoons would consist of snuggles on the sofa watching a Disney film and singing my favourite songs with her. It’s crazy how this all started with a mouse and how a Disney film can captivate any young person’s imagination and that’s what I love about Disney

As I was infatuated with it my dad decided to surprise me and one of my older brothers with a trip to Disneyland Florida. It was in 1996 when I was 8 years old – You can certainly imagine my face when I was told about it. When we arrived at the Magic Kingdom I was just mesmerised by the huge Cinderella castle and the way that the sun cascaded on the building giving it such a magical feel. I’m guessing it was every little girls dream to visit Disneyland and I was so happy to visit this wonderful place. I was just so excited to jump on every single ride that they have and meet all the characters there. The best memory that I have was meeting Cinderella – Her hair was golden blonde in a bun and her dress was a glittering baby blue, exactly from the film. I was so excited to meet her and get her autograph in my little book that when she asked where I was from, I just said Exeter (like she’d know where that was) I went red faced and became so shy that my mum had to carry on my conversation.

My favourite Disney film of all time is Alice in Wonderland starring the voices of Ed Wynn & Kathryn Beaumont. The story is just full of pure nonsense in a world full of crazy characters & tea parties. It was the first time I realise that we all have 364 un-birthdays and that jam and mustard will help a stopwatch work again. It was also the first time we heard the famous quote “Why is a raven like a writing desk” – Still to this day no one knows that this is all about, but it makes the story and film just simply wonderful.

Growing up with Disney in my life has always made me want to dream big and inspire to be what I want to be, although my dream of working my way into a job that will one day be a career has not yet come true I’ll still keep on dreaming knowing that and following the saying “A dream that you wish will come true” I thank Disney for making me feel more inspired and creative with my art (see my picture of Ariel below) and too of course be myself.  I might be 25, but I’ll always be a Disney fan and will certainly pass on the baton when I have kids on my own one day. I in fact visited Disneyland Paris in 2013 (16 years after my visit to Florida) and all of my childhood memories came flooding back leaving me feeling all giddy, emotional and bright eyed because it was just so magical again. I also get my Disney figurines each year from my mum to add too my collection.

The moral of this post is that no matter what age you are whether you’re 6 or 60 – its ok to enjoy Disney and be a part of the magical fairytale ride. You’re never too old to love Disney and always remember that “When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true”

  1. I absolutely love this post and I'm the exact same as you about Disney. I remember my trip to Magic Kingdom in Florida too and I was so overwhelmed by the castle and how magical it felt. I keep pestering the other about going but he's not as enthusiastic. I still love a good old Disney film! I loved reading this post, as soon as I saw the word Disney I knew I'd be pulled in x

  2. Fab post! Disney surely is a magical place and it's very easy to get lost in their stories and fantasies.

I'm going to Florida in May, I may be 27 but I'm probably going to be the most excited child there. I visited Disney Land Paris when I was 13 and I remember how sad I felt when I came back. The week following that trip was where I first experienced depression. Ha. I literally felt like I had so much fun and now there is no more fun to be had in the world and what was the point! I hope I don't feel like that again when I come home from America. If I do, at least I have wine, now.
