Ratatouille: A Disney Inspired Recipe

source
If you know how much I love food then you can probably guess that Ratatouille is one of my favourite Disney films. I actually didn't watch it up until last year I believe, I don't know why, how did that happen? Well I loved it when I did watch it and Remy the rat kind of inspired me and really made me crave Ratatouille (and cheese, loads of cheese and grapes). So since this is Disney Month and I am a food blogger at heart I thought this would be perfect. I tried to reproduce this simple yet delicious dish to bring you this little recipe:

Ratatouille

1 small courgette
1 white onion
1 small aubergine
1 big clove of garlic
1 small red pepper
1 small yellow pepper
150 ml tomat puree
olive oil
salt

  • Cut up all the vegetables in (round) thin slices
  • Start with the aubergines, then put them in a colander with some salt and something heavy on the top to drain the liquids and get rid of the bitterness
  • Preheat the oven to about 180 degrees
  •
  • Once you've done that, you can get your oven proof dish (whatever shape or size you want, although ideally it should fit all the veg, ya know)
  • Put some olive oil and the garlic at the bottom of the dish
  •  Now, you can arrange the veg in whatever way you want but if you want to be authentic, try and arrange them in a circular kind of way (see picture above and below)
  • Once it's all arranged, add the tomato puree and (ideally pour into the middle of the circle) and season with some salt and maybe add some more olive oil
  • You can now put the lid on (or some foil if your dish doesn't have a lid) and put it all in the oven for about 45 minutes
  •  You can then take it out of the oven and maybe leave it to rest for a bit with the lid on, you can then start to serve it up
  • Now, you can have this as a side dish for maybe chicken or a bbq, you can have it with some pasta or rice or you can just have it with a bit of bread kind of as a main dish, so what I did is just an example

as you can see, I served it up with some flatbread and sour cream with chives (which I am addicted to!) which I really enjoyed. I'm quite happy with the way this dish turned out considering this is the first time I made it in this way. It's obviously not exactly like the one in the film, but you know, animated vegetables behave slightly different to real ones, but I really like the effect of the stacking and stuff. So what do you think? have you ever made a disney inspired dish?

Magdalena.
