DIY Flower Crowns

I've lusted after flower crowns for a long time and if you follow me on Twitter, you'll know all about my love for the hair accessory. But it's been really difficult to find one that I absolutely love and want to pay for. A lot of them are either not what I want or so expensive I can't afford them anyway.
So after a bit of research, I decided to dive into the world of DIY Flower Crowns.

Excuse any bad photography, I was also watching Green Street while doing this and if you know anything about Charlie Hunnam, you'll understand how I could get distracted.

Also, I have to point out that these flowers cost me very little. The long yellow and pink garlands were only $2.50 each and they have roughly 50 flowers on them so that's a lot of flower crown for not a lot of money. The larger flowers cost a little more but I bought fewer because they would act as the center piece of the headband.

  • Fake Flowers
  • Floral Wire (various colours)
  • Floral Tape
  • Wire Cutters
  • Scissors
  • Beads
I started off by measuring my head with the floral wire, adding two thumbs worth of wire and then chopping it to size. That should fit around your head nicely. I wrapped the wire around at the ends and tucked it around itself so there aren't any wire ends poking through.
Then I trimmed the fake flowers to the size I wanted and attached them to the wire headband with more floral wire. I spent a while arranging the flowers so they suited the headpiece and looked the way I wanted.

I also strung beads on some floral wire and worked that into my floral crowns (I made more than one).
When I was happy with my flower crown, I used floral tape to hide any wire I didn't want on show.

I also wanted to make the headband a bit bigger so it can be adjusted depending on people's head size.

Behind the Magic

Have you ever been to Disney World, Florida?
I have. Twice.
It was fantastic in every way possible. You feel like a child no matter your age, mostly thanks to the amazing Disney cast members and the perfect working order of the parks. But a lot of effort goes into creating that magic and in a new Daily Mail article, we're introduced to the magic behind Disney World, Florida.

During our family trip, we were always amazed by how characters would appear as if by magic by your side. Pooh would be whisked off for a "honey" break and Peter Pan runs off enthusiastically to disappear before your very eyes.
But really, there's a secret network of tunnels underneath the whole park! How genius is that? Basically, Walt Disney was a pretty amazing guy and super forward thinking, painstakingly planning out his Disney World, Florida compound to bring sheer joy to all those that visited.
He started building Disney World, Florida underground and then built on top of that, creating a fantastic theme park where the engine room has been hidden below your very feet.

Now, I don't know about you but I think that's pretty magical.
You can read the full article here and find out how you can go on a magical tour of the workings below the ground as well.

The 5 Loves of my Life

If you read my last post, you'll know that I'm single and I don't have that kind of love in my life at the moment. But that doesn't mean I don't have love for other things and that I'm not loved.
I think it's very important for us to understand that love is not just one thing. It's forever moving and changing. There are thousands of different types of love from the buoyant love you feel for your favourite cereal to that in-your-bones love for your family. And after quite a cynical look at the "love" offered from online dating sites, I want to have a little look at the five things I am certain I love.
And I don't want you to know how bitter I really am. I have unicorns on my socks.

Error 404: Faulty Love Connection

So I'm the only single one here at FOTB and believe me, it ain't all Beyoncé songs and twerking my friends. No, sometimes it’s eating the whole tub of ice cream and not having the energy to justify it because there’s no one there to justify it to anyway. That being said, I could probably put some make up on to attract a man and maybe even brush my hair occasionally. But what fun would that be? It sounds like hard work, actually. No matter how easy Zoella and Michelle Phan make it look, I cannot do a smokey eye to save my life.
No instead I'll be hitting up Tinder and OkCupid tonight. Because that's where the real gems are found.

Buttermilking it For All It's Worth

Red velvet cake is something that has become synonymous with Valentine’s Day. You could almost say that the red velvet cake has been buttermilked for all it’s worth! Get it? No? Ok.
Now I understand this but if you’re me, you absolutely dread having to make Red Velvet anything. It’s not that I don’t like Red Velvet, in fact it’s a really lovely flavour, but I’d prefer to buy it in the shops than slave away over it in the kitchen. There are often quite a few different ingredients and I always forget one or two, it’s just inevitable and it makes me cry on the inside everytime. The common one I always forget is the buttermilk!

So I’ve got a handy list of buttermilk substitutions and ways to get by. Yeah, that’s right, when it comes to making Red Velvet I am at the “getting by” stage.

Cheers to New Beginnings

I hope that you’re excited to read this post because I cannot express with words how excited I am to push publish on this post. I might actually wee myself. Some realness for you there.

So our theme this month is new beginnings.
That can a mean lot of things and it can be quite daunting if you think about it. It’s a lot of pressure. Like when I was at school and I opened a new exercise book to start writing in it. Talk about expectations. You look at the page and it’s all clean and new and unmarked and you feel like you can do anything and be anything with this new page. I mean c’mon, it’s yours to do what you want with.
Even though you know two weeks later the book will resemble a natural disaster zone and will probably be a food diary simply by the stains on the pages.
